You have just undergone treatment, sometimes spanning over half a year, tolerating side effects from treatments that seem to accumulate. Some of these side effects go away with time, but some may stay forever. In addition to following up with your cancer doctors regularly after treatment is done, many patients will benefit from physical therapy, lymphedema therapy, speech therapy, and/or regular dental/eye/ear exams, just to name a few.
Psychologically, it can be jarring and hard to think that you are no longer receiving treatments and just undergoing surveillance scans. Lead up to each follow up appointment or scan can often be anxiety provoking. National and local cancer support groups are a good way to connect with others that are on this cancer journey.
